Fukuiraptor and Fukuisaurus : Japanese Dinosaurs


 

The age of the dinosaurs: an era that continues to fascinate as we make further discoveries and gain a deeper understanding of what was happening hundreds of millions of years ago.

 

Fukuisaurus is a herbivorous dinosaur believed to have lived around 120 million years ago in the Early Cretaceous period. Fossilised remains were discovered in Katsuyama City in Fukui, Japan, an area renowned for its fossil finds. It was the first dinosaur in Japan to have a fully reconstructed skeleton, and in 2003 it was given the species name Fukuisaurus tetoriensis: the former means “lizard of Fukui” and the latter refers to the Tetori Group, in whose Kitadani formation the fossilized remains were found. Fukuisaurus is believed to have grown to 5.2 meters in length and been able to move on two or four legs as needed. It clipped leaves off of vegetation with its beak-like mouth and chewed them with its back teeth.

What color was Fukuisaurus?
Unfortunately, there is no evidence in the fossil record regarding its color, but we can refer to its distant relatives in the modern day, and there are plenty of ideas in reference materials both printed and electronic. Think about the environment it lived in, too! Tamiya Color paint products are recommended.

About the Model
★This is a 1/35 scale plastic model assembly kit. Length: 134 mm. ★Snap-together assembly. ★The kit comes with a display base part, and human silhouettes to give a sense of scale. ★A detailed color leaflet is included with background information on Fukuisaurus and other dinosaurs discovered in Fukui. ★Comes with a paper sheet the same size as the package, featuring illustrations of vegetation and scenery.


  • Marvel at details like wrinkles on the meaty body and hind legs, and the long tail.


  • The beak-like mouth evolved to let Fukuisaurus pluck vegetation to eat.


  • It is believed that its relatively long front limbs let it move on two or four legs as it needed.


  • The base part has a simple recreation of a dirt surface.


  • Parts are molded in green, and are of a distinctly manageable number.


  • Simply cut the parts off their sprue and fit them together. No cement is needed!


  • The main trunk of the model is split into left and right halves.


  • Parts are split along body lines for smooth and seamless fit.


  • The realistic form hints at the musculature and skeleton beneath.


  • The tail is a single slide-molded part.
