PLANETARY GEARBOX SET

This fascinating assembly kit lets you make your very own planetary gearbox. Slot together 4:1 and 5:1 ratio gearbox units together to make one of eight possible gear ratios from 4:1 to 400:1. The gears and case are precisely molded in durable manufacturing plastic, and power is provided by a Type 260 motor; attachment parts are also included. The gearbox is also compatible with third party Type 140 and Type 260 motors.

The planetary gearbox is said to have been first proposed by James Watt, and gets its name from its resemblance to the way planets rotate around the sun. This gearbox is composed of a central sun gear surrounded by planetary gears which rotate around it, all inside an internal ring gear carved into the gear case. As the sun gear rotates the planetary gears do likewise, moving around the sun gear in the same direction it rotates in.
The table here shows how the different units can be combined to achieve different gear ratios.


Examples of use
As mentioned above, eight gear ratios can be achieved with this kit; different crank plates and joints (3 total options) are also included, so you have a wealth of options at your fingertips. Let your imagination run free!
