1/48 Military Miniature Series No.106

1/48 U.S. LIGHT TANK M5A1 STUART

Length: 94 mm. Image shows painted and assembled kit.

A successor to the M3 - the United States’ first mass production light tank - the M5A1 Stuart was upgraded with V8 gasoline engines, a welded hull with updates to the sloped frontal armor and engine deck. The turret kept the 37mm gun from the M3, but it had a larger rear section and bigger hatches for the commander and gunner. Rails for track grousers and a 7.62mm machine gun were also added, and in the region of 6,800 M5A1s were built, serving across a variety of fronts and using their mobility effectively ni reconnaissance and other roles.
