The Japanese Navy had implemented the revolutionary large destroyer design, and following the heavily-armed Hatsuharu-class, the Shiratsuyu-class of 10 ships was constructed. All of them fought in the Pacific and none survived. This is a model of the Shiratsuyu, which was completed in 1936 as the lead ship of her namesake class. Her design incorporates features to rectify the stability problems suffered by previous destroyer designs. Her heavy armament of five 12.7cm guns and two quadruple 61cm torpedo launchers have been sharply recreated as well.
