About Vought F4U-1D Corsair
Vought F4U-1D Corsair The US Navy aircraft Corsair overpowered Japanese aircraft with its high speed and heavy armament. Following type F4U-1 or F4U-1A mainly deployed to the Marine air bases, the type F4U-1D became the first Corsair version to be officially approved for carrier operation in April 1944. Raised pilot seat, frameless bubble canopy to improve visibility, and larger blade propeller were adopted. In addition to six 12.7mm machine guns, the F4U-1D featured a 900kg bomb payload or extra fuel tanks, as well as 8 rockets that could be loaded to the outer wings. When the US Navy began to conduct air strikes on the Japanese homeland in February 1945, the F4U-1D demonstrated its true effectiveness as a fighter bomber.
