Initially, the Morris Mini was a comfortable, compact, about the town automobile that was easy to drive and park. However, with a top speed of about 87mph, it could compete with the best of them, even the likes of the Porsche 911. Recognised as having the potential for a successful rally car with excellent performance on slippery surfaces it was entered into the Monte Carlo Rally. The Porsche 911 could easily overtake the Mini on a dry course, but the Mini excelled on the curves and wet, icy surfaces. The Mini Cooper's first win in Monte Carlo was in 1964, and then once again in 1965 and 1967. About the Model - Model accurately replicates 1967 Monte Carlo Rally winning vehicle - Overall length: 131mm - 4-cylinder engine, aux-lights, roof mounted carrier, rally dashboard, roll bar, spare tires etc. all perfectly reproduced. - Engine hood opens and closes after assembly allowing display of engine. - Rubber tires for added realism. |
