TRF414 Q&A

Questions about other necessary items:
Q What kind of R/C system can I use with the TRF414?
A Please use a 2-channel, 1-servo type R/C system. In addition to the Tamiya CPR unit, the TRF414 can be used with almost all other brands of R/C systems (some minor changes to chassis layout might be necessary).

Q What kind of tires and wheels can I use?
A Please use wheels with an off-set of 0. 24mm, medium narrow wheels are recommended. Tamiya wheels are not usable due to interference with the rear uprights.

Q What kind of motor should I use?
A All motors for electric R/C cars (540-type) can be used. Please choose a motor according to race regulations in your area. The stock gear ratio of the TRF414 is suitable for motors of around 11 turns.

Q What kind of body can I use on the TRF414?
A Tamiya's line-up of GT car bodies from the Touring Car class are usable (besides those for use with short-wheel base chassis such as TA03F-S). Minor modification to the bodies such as the drilling of holes to fit the body mounts might be necessary.

Q Can I use Tamiya batteries?
A Please use separate type batteries available at most hobby stores. Straight back batteries such as the Tamiya RC2400SP can also be used, however glass tape should be applied to fix the battery in place and keep it from contacting the drive belt.
Questions about the TRF414 kit:
Q I am new to R/C racing. Can I use the TRF414?
A The TRF414 was designed for expert class R/C racers, and thus requires a fair amount of R/C experience. Please understand this before you purchase the TRF414.

Q The TRF414 uses a "front one-way drive". What is that?
A "Front one-way drive" is the name of the drive system which transmits power to the wheels during straight running, but frees up the wheels when cornering. This system allows for sharper cornering performance.

Q How can I change the gear ratio of the TRF414?
A Please use 64 pitch spur gear and pinion gear. You can not use Tamiya's RD04 Spur Gear Set (Item 53104) or the various RD04 Steel Pinion (Item 53101, 53102, 53103, 53117, 53262).

Q There are two kinds of lower arms included in the kit. Which ones should I use?
A There are both reinforced resin and carbon reinforced resin arms in the TRF414 kit. The former is more flexible, offering superb shock absorption on low-traction surfaces. The latter is of higher rigidity, providing reliable running on high-traction surfaces, but requiring more careful setting.

Q Can I use the TRF414 in any race?
A No, the TRF414 is a high-end, high-performance chassis, which does not meet the restrictions of every race. Be sure to check race regulations before you enter.
