【 Rommel's Desert Tigers 】 The Tiger I, with its 100mm thick frontal armor and 88mm main gun, was one of the most fearsome tanks of WWII. Allied tanks were helpless as their guns could not penetrate the Tiger's armor, while the Tiger could destroy them with ease at long range. Initial production Tiger I tanks were assigned to s.Pz.Abt.501 and sent to North Africa in 1942 to help Field Marshall Erwin Rommel resist the Allied advance into Tunisia. Although factory-finished in Dark Yellow, it is said that several were field-painted in American Olive Drab using captured paint. Taking part in the battle around Tebourba, the Tigers quickly proved their lethality by knocking out 130 Allied tanks. Turret No.142 was one of 20 Tiger I tanks assigned to s.Pz.Abt.501 in January 1943, and gave the Allies a taste of the awesome power of the Tiger I.
