|【 Savour the NSR500's Unique Layout 】 Despite having taken the 1983 500cc Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix Riders' Championship (their first since 1967) on the 2-stroke V3 engine NS500, Honda were not satisfied with their motor and felt that more power would be required. Thus, even as the NS500 was winning races, the Japanese motorcycle giant was already developing the new V4 engine-powered NSR500 for 1984. They came up with a single-crankshaft V4 design engine for the bike, which also featured a unique aluminum frame to house the engine and a radical layout in which the expansion chambers and the fuel tank were positioned above and below the engine respectively. The 1984 version of the bike was piloted to 3 victories by F. Spencer and 1 more by R. Mamola, proving there was substance to its style.|
