Making its debut in the 1979 Formula 1 season, the Ferrari 312T4 was Ferrari's firs ground effects race car. Despite the wide flat-12 boxer engine and transverse-mounted gearbox, chief designer Mauro Forghieri created an effective aerodynamics package. Jody Scheckter and Gilles Villeneuve drove the car to a pair of 1-2 finishes to start the season, and the dominant car went on to give Ferrari the Contructor's Championship and Scheckter the Driver's Championship. |
