Tamiya's Figure Remodeling Contest is based on customizing 5cm figures from our 1/35 scale Military Miniatures Collection. Entrants use modeling putty, alternate color schemes and all manner of small accessories to transform these figures into entirely new creations. Not limited to simply remodeling figures, contestants also build extremely creative bases and backgrounds, which tell interesting stories and help bring their models to life. |

The Tamiya 35th Figure Modeling Contest was as impressive as ever, with a large number of splendid entries featuring a wide variety of interesting subject matter, including some eye-catching debut works. This year’s Gold Award goes to Masato Tani for his set of 3 pieces inspired by the popular Korean drama series Vow of Changum, Lady of the Court. Mr. Tani’s work beautifully depicts not only the hairstyles and clothing of the period, but also amazing life-like expressions on the characters’ faces. Entering this contest for the second time, Kiyoshi Okuyama receives the Silver Award for his startling recreation of none other than the legendary Leonardo da Vinci in the act of painting his most well-known masterpiece. The Bronze Award goes to debut entry Satoshi Tsujimura for his set of 3 pieces featuring both classic military subjects as well as modern day cultural icons, all of which showcase masterful technique. Famous sports figures grabbed headlines in 2006, and the Topic Award recipients reflect this as Keiji Kobata, a veteran who has entered each of the 35 contests to date, and Kunihiko Sato took the honors with renditions of Torino Olympic gold medalist Shizuka Arakawa and the popular “Handkerchief Prince,” Waseda High School pitcher Yuuki Saito. All of these award-winning entries are set to be displayed at various Tamiya events this year and we highly encourage you to come and admire them in person. |
