About the Ferrari F189 Portuguese GP
The Ferrari F189 was driven by Nigel Mansell and earned its debut-win at the opening Brazil Grand Prix race in the 1989 F1 season. The F189 was modified and a big size air induction pod was adopted starting with the Mexico Grand Prix. The very esthetic body styling resembling a vase when viewed from above is the result of extensive wind tunnel testing and was designed to provide better internal airflow. The power plant was Ferrari's traditional V12 3.5L engine. The Ferrari F189 featured revolutionary seven-speed, semi-automatic gear-box and a unique suspension system layout never before seen on the F1 circuit. Nigel Mansell took first place at the Hungary GP, and Gerhard Berger finished first at the Portuguese GP.
