The 2009 EFRA Off-Road European Championships, the largest off-road R/C race event in Europe, was held from August 10th-15th in Bilbao, Spain. TRF (Tamiya Racing Factory) continued their rich vein of form, with Marc Rheinard and his TRF511 converting a Top Qualifier position into a championship title in the 4WD class. Hupo and Vicktor also came in 3rd and 4th respectively, so the TRF511 filled 3 out of the top 4 spots! Furthermore, Hupo topped the 2WD class podium to give TRF the championship in both of these classes.

This was the 10th Off-Road European Championships and 133 drivers took part. Three TRF drivers, off-road specialist Hupo plus Marc and Vicktor, were in the mix. The course made use of a natural incline to feature a distinctive hill climb section in its layout. It also featured sections of artificial turf together with sections of natural dirt surfaces. Lipo batteries and 2-lap consecutive times to determine final positions were both factors that were different from domestic Japanese races.

4WD Class Qualifying (Best 3 Rounds Out of 5)
Marc quickly showed his prowess on the off-road circuit by taking three 1st place finishes to get the Top Qualifying position. Despite two poor rounds, Vicktor came back to claim the third overall qualifying spot with some superb driving. While Marc and Vicktor are better known for their on-road exploits, they both showed that they equally capable in the rough stuff. Not to be outdone, Hupo claimed the 4th qualifying position, giving TRF three out of the four spots in the front two grid rows.

4WD Class Finals (3 Rounds)
In the 1st Round, Marc produced a pole-to-finish win, with Hupo coming in 2nd. The 2nd Round saw Associated's Neil Cragg, who started from 2nd place on the grid, grab the win, with Marc coming in 3rd, which meant those two drivers were even on points. Finally, the 3rd Round saw Marc take another win to seal the championship and Hupo came in 3rd to take overall 3rd place. Vicktor was unlucky to have a disqualification in one of the rounds, but he still finished in 4th place overall.

Please continue to give your support to Team TRF and their machines in the races to come!
